Based on the sculpture by Adolph Alexander Weinman

A fragment of the cosmos,

her pedestal above the world.

Cast in bronze she draws down night,

winged curtains drowning out light.

Starlight reflects off her skin,

a beacon in the dark calling out

to lonely souls who find in her

the loving embrace so long denied.

She used to stand alone,

hidden away in the darkness she brought.

Her elegance captured in that moment

she looked longingly on the earth below.

Forever fixed in one instant,

her wings outstretched

welcoming those who shy from light.

They can rest safely in her canopy of Night.
